Le dernier Anyta Sunday est superbe à bien des niveaux. Je dois admettre être une fan inconditionnelle de cette auteure car elle s’épanouit dans cette catégorie de romance appelée « slow burn », sans jamais se répéter et réussit à se renouveler dans son terrain de prédilection. Marc and the gazebo est dans mon top 3 des livres de Anyta Sunday car j’adore les romances entre anciens ennemies et celle-si est l’une des meilleures que j’ai lu. Ce roman est le deuxième tome de la série Love Inscribed mais peut se lire indépendamment tel que je l’ai fait, cela n’influence pas votre compréhension de l’histoire.

Nous suivons l’histoire de Marc « Jill » Jillson, qui s’est fait tabassé neuf mois plus tôt par son meilleur ami homophobe après qu’il lui ait avoué son amour. Depuis, Marc ressasse les événements, notamment lorsqu’il était le fidèle ami de Jack, blessant tous son entourage afin d’impressionner ce dernier. Il ne sait plus qui il est et passe son temps en ligne, jouant à des jeux de rôles, sa seule interaction avec le monde, notamment avec un joueur appelé DaMage. Joueur qui se révélera être Hunter Travis, l’une des personnes que Marc a blessé par le passé.

En plus d’une histoire d’amour, nous suivons une quête : sauver le Lover’s Loop, endroit romantique avec un gazebo, où les couples se retrouvaient autrefois. Il va cependant être détruit et remplacé par des champs de fleurs. En se promenant dans ce lieu qu’ils souhaitent sauver, Marc et Travis trouvent par hasard une boite en fer contenant des lettres d’amants séparés par la guerre. En cherchant à sauver le lovers loop, ils se retrouvent face à une autre quête : réunir deux amants qui se sont rencontrés dans cet endroit des années plut tôt, comme tant d’autre couples, comme l’oncle de Marc et les parents de Travis. Ce lieu recèle tant de souvenirs, c’est un héritage qui doit être conservé. Ce sont ces quêtes qui ont réunis Travis et Hunter, alors que tout les opposait.

J’ai adoré le personnage de Travis : il ne laisse pas son handicap le définir et possède une telle force intérieure qui le pousse à croquer la vie à pleine dents. La manière dont il aborde son handicap et comment il le gère m’a émue au plus haut point. Il est drôle et intelligent et semble prête à donner une seconde chance à Marc. Celui-ci lui semble éprouver tant de honte qu’il ne sait pas comment se conduire avec lui, ou avec n’importe qui. Il a toujours été gay et a aimé jack pendant si longtemps, qu’il semble se retenir d’explorer sa sexualité. La violence avec laquelle jack a répondu à sa déclaration est un traumatisme qui a modelé la vie de Marc : il est déchiré entre ses désirs et sa honte. C’est pour cela qu’il a énormément de mal à se laisser aller et à essayer d’aller de l’avant.
Ces deux personnages principaux sont incroyablement bien écrits et m’ont charmée dès les premières pages.
Les personnages secondaires sont eux aussi très solides et j’ai notamment adoré l’oncle de Marc, Ben. Son histoire d’amour avec Jason mérite son propre roman. Nous avons aussi Quinn et Liam qui jouent selon moi un rôle si important.

Maintenant que j’ai lu l’histoire de Travis et Marc je veux absolument me plonger dans celle de Liam et Quinn, protagonistes du premier roman, qui m’ont énormément intriguée durant ce roman. Je ne peux que vous conseiller de vous plonger dans cette superbe histoire d’amour et si vous êtes un fan d’Anita Sunday vous ne serez absolument pas déçu. Comme toujours, la magie d’Anyta a opéré et m’a conquise.

The latest Anyta Sunday was amazing on so many accounts. I must admit i am a huge fan of this author because she thrives in her slow-burn romances, without getting boring and never repeats herself. Marc and The Gazebo might be one of my personal favorite because of the enemies to lovers stories that Anyta brought to life. This book is the second one of the series Love Inscribed but can be read independently, as I did, it won’t diminish your understanding of the story but will make you curious about the two main protagonists of the first book.

We are following the story of Marc « Jill » Jillson, who’s been beaten up by his best friend jack nine months prior following Marc’s love confession to him. Ever since, Marc has been wallowing in self pity as he kept thinking how much of an asshole he has been to everyone because of his crush on Jack, only to please him, hiding his true self in the process. He spent the last months role playing online with someone called DaMage, who we soon find out turns out to be, Travis Hunter, one of the very people Marc hurt while being Jack’s sidekick.

This story is not only the pursuit of love for both characters, but trying to save the Lover’s Loop, a romantic place with a gazebo that will soon be destroyed to be replaced with pansy beds. Wondering around the place they want to save, they found a tin box holding letters from two star crossed lovers. And this search will lead them to another one : trying to reunite this set of lovers that have met in this very place just like so many other couples such as marc’s uncle Ben and Jason, Hunter’s parents…. This place holds so many memories and is an heritage that should be conserved. This quest reunited our two main protagonists, when the odds were not really in favour of their relationship.

I loved Travis character : he doesn’t let his disability define him and has such an inner strength. Moreover, how he learned to deal with his paralysis moved me so much. He is funny and witty and seems to be willing to give Marc a second chance. Marc on the other hand is so ashamed of himself that he doesn’t know how to conduct himself, with anyone really. He has always been gay and had been carrying a torch for jack for so long that he seems to hold out on his sexuality. Being beaten for it by his crush is also a traumatic event that led him to act so awkwardly, torn between his desires and his shame. The two main protagonists were really strong characters, well written, that i loved almost right away.

The supporting characters were great, especially Marc’s uncle, who is also in charge of the university newspaper, making him Marc and Hunter’s boss. His own love story would definitely need a book We also have Quinn and Liam, Hunter’s best friends, that impact his and Marc relationship more that me think… Some of their words really sting, and made me wonder how much Marc hurt Liam in the past when he seems so likeable in this story.

Now that I read Travis and Marc love story I am ready do dive in the first book of the series, focusing on Liam and Quinn, who really intrigued me during this story. I can only urge you to read this beautiful story and if you are a fan of Anyta Sunday you won’t be disappointed, far from it. As always, Anyta’s magic strikes and conquered my heart with this beautiful love story.
